Everything went well, except for the part where the bank wouldn't pay because they didn't have the money! Of course, the bank didn't tell us until we rocked up for the settlement with big smiles on our faces. We're in the house now, so we're happy again.
We thought that connecting to the internet would be a cinch. It turns out we can't get ADSL at our house yet, because we're connected to a RIM. I don't understand the details of a RIM, but basically it's a device that Telstra connects to the telephone exchanges to enable more phone lines quickly and cheaply without having to lay cables. As a side effect, ADSL ports become severely limited, or disabled altogether. Yesterday we connected to dial-up through Beagle Internet, but I was unable to share the internet with other devices in our network (plus it is really slow!). So now I have a prepaid wireless broadband account with Virgin Mobile. The modem itself is a portable Wi-Fi router, and it looks a bit like a mobile phone. So now we can connect three devices to the internet sighmultaneously!
